About PDF to EPUB
PDF to EPUB turns a fixed-layout PDF into an EPUB e-book that reflows to any screen. Read the result on a phone, an e-reader or any reading app, at any text size.
Every page with selectable text becomes a real chapter: lines are joined into paragraphs and large print is detected as headings, so the book reads naturally instead of looking like a screenshot.
Pages that are pure scans, with no text to extract, are embedded as images in the right place. Nothing is dropped, and everything is converted locally in your browser.
How to use PDF to EPUB
- Open the PDF you want to convert.
- Pick the e-book's language for the metadata.
- Press Convert to EPUB and wait for the progress bar.
- Check the result in your favorite reader app.
- Download the .epub file.
Truly reflowable
Text is rebuilt as paragraphs and headings, so the e-book adapts to every screen size and font choice, unlike a PDF.
Scans are kept
Pages without extractable text are embedded as images at their position, so scanned documents still convert completely.
Real e-book metadata
The title and author are taken from the PDF when present, and the language you pick is written into the book for correct hyphenation.
Nothing is uploaded
Conversion runs entirely in your browser with the same PDF engine as the site's other tools. Your file never leaves the tab.
What actually happens during conversion
A PDF paints characters at fixed positions; an EPUB stores flowing paragraphs. The converter extracts every text run with its position and font size, groups the runs into lines, and joins the lines into paragraphs using punctuation, spacing and font changes as clues. A paragraph printed clearly larger than the page's body text is marked as a heading, which is how chapter titles survive the trip.
The result is one EPUB chapter per PDF page, listed in the book's table of contents, plus a stylesheet that keeps the layout calm and readable. The output is a standard EPUB 3 file that opens in Apple Books, Calibre, Kobo, Google Play Books and every modern reading app.
The honest limits: multi-column academic layouts can interleave, decorative fonts are replaced by the reader's own, and complex tables read better in the original PDF. For scanned books, pair this tool with OCR first if you want text instead of page images.
Tips for better results
- Pick the book's actual language; reading apps use it for hyphenation and dictionaries.
- Run OCR first on scanned books to get selectable text, then convert for a fully reflowable result.
- Single-column documents like reports and novels convert most cleanly.
- Open the result in the site's EPUB Reader for a quick check before loading it onto a device.
Questions and answers
Will the EPUB look exactly like the PDF?
No, and that is the point. An EPUB reflows: the same chapter is one column on a phone and wider on a tablet, in whatever font and size you choose. Layouts that depend on exact positioning, like complex tables, are better kept as PDF.
What happens to scanned pages?
Pages whose text cannot be extracted are embedded as images in the correct order, so the converted book still contains every page.
Which readers open the file?
The output is a standard EPUB 3. Apple Books, Calibre, Kobo, Google Play Books and most e-readers open it directly; Kindle apps accept EPUB through Send to Kindle.
Is my document uploaded anywhere?
No. The PDF is parsed and the EPUB is packaged inside your browser. No file or page ever leaves the tab.
Why is each page a chapter?
PDFs rarely mark where chapters start, so each page becomes one entry in the table of contents. Headings detected inside pages keep the structure readable.
