About Crop PDF

Before
After

Crop PDF trims the edges of your PDF pages. Set how much to cut from the top, right, bottom and left, watch the frame in the live preview, and save a new PDF with the smaller page area.

Wide white margins waste space on small screens and e-readers. Scans often include the scanner lid's dark border or the edge of a desk. Academic papers read better on a tablet once the margins go. Cropping fixes all of these.

Text and images inside the frame stay as they were.

How to use Crop PDF

  1. Open the PDF you want to crop.
  2. Drag the sliders to set the margin to cut on each side, or keep them linked to cut the same on all sides.
  3. Check the frame in the preview. Click other thumbnails to check other pages.
  4. Click Crop PDF and download the result.

Live preview

A frame on the page shows what stays and what goes.

Per-side control

Unlink the sliders to cut a different amount from each edge.

No quality loss

Cropping changes the visible area. The content isn't redrawn or compressed.

Rotation aware

Top means top as you see it, even on rotated pages.

How PDF cropping works

Every PDF page has a set of boxes that define its size. The media box describes the full sheet, and the crop box describes the area a reader shows and prints. This tool shrinks both boxes to your frame, so viewers, printers and other tools all agree on the new page size.

Cropping hides the content outside the frame. It doesn't delete it from the file. Someone with a PDF editor could reset the boxes and see the trimmed area again. If you need to remove sensitive content at the edge of a page, crop and then run Flatten PDF with the whole page option, which turns each page into an image of only the visible area.

The margins are percentages of the page size, so the same setting works for pages of different sizes in one document. The same crop applies to every page. For documents where pages need different crops, split them into groups, crop each group, and merge them again.

Because the file size depends on content, not page area, cropping rarely makes a PDF smaller. Use Compress PDF if size is the goal.

Tips for better results

  • Leave a small margin around text. Cropping right up to the letters makes pages feel cramped.
  • For two-up scans with a book spine in the middle, crop the left half, then the right half from a second copy, and merge.
  • Crop before converting to images with PDF to JPG to avoid white borders in the pictures.
  • Check the last page too; appendices often have different margins.

Questions and answers

Does cropping delete the hidden content?

No. The content outside the frame stays in the file but isn't shown or printed.

Can I crop pages differently?

The tool applies one crop to all pages. Split the document to crop parts differently.

Will cropping reduce file size?

Usually not. Use Compress PDF to reduce size.

Does it work on scanned PDFs?

Yes. It works the same on scans and digital documents.

Is my PDF uploaded?

No. Cropping happens in your browser.
