About Merge PDF
Merge PDF joins two or more PDF files into a single document. You pick the files, set the order, and your browser writes a new PDF that contains every page from every file, one after another.
People use it to assemble a job application from a CV, a cover letter and certificates, to bundle monthly invoices for an accountant, or to stitch scanned pages back together after a scanner split them into separate files. Lawyers combine exhibits, students attach an appendix to a thesis, and project managers send one report instead of six attachments.
The tool copies each page as it is, so text stays selectable, links keep working inside the page, and images keep their original resolution. Nothing gets re-rendered or compressed during the merge.
How to use Merge PDF
- Click Choose PDF files or drag your PDFs onto the page. You can select several files at once.
- Check the list. Each file shows its size and page count.
- Drag files up or down, or use the arrow buttons, until the order matches the document you want.
- Add more files with the Add more PDFs box if you forgot one.

What happens when you merge PDFs
A PDF file stores each page as a set of drawing instructions plus the resources those instructions use, such as fonts and images. When you merge, the tool opens every source file, copies the page objects together with the resources they reference, and writes them into a fresh document in the order you chose.
Because the tool copies pages instead of printing them again, the merged file looks identical to the originals. A file with selectable text keeps selectable text. A scanned page stays a scanned image. Page sizes also stay as they were, so you can mix A4 and Letter pages, or portrait and landscape pages, in one document.
Some document-level features don't carry over. Bookmarks (the outline panel in your PDF reader), file attachments and interactive form fields belong to the document rather than to a page, and a merge starts from a new document. If you need bookmarks in the final file, add them afterwards in a desktop editor.
The output size usually equals the sum of the inputs. If the merged file is too big for email, run it through Compress PDF afterwards. Compressing once at the end gives better results than compressing each file before the merge.
Tips for better results
- Name your files with numbers first (01-cover.pdf, 02-report.pdf). Most file pickers sort by name, so they arrive in the right order.
- Password-protected files can't be read until you remove the password with Unlock PDF.
- To merge only some pages from a file, run Extract PDF Pages on it first, then merge the extracted file.
- Add page numbers after merging so the numbering runs through the whole document.
- On a phone, merging dozens of large scans can run out of memory. Merge in two batches, then merge the two results.
Questions and answers
Is it safe to merge confidential PDFs here?
Yes. The merge runs in your browser with JavaScript. Your files don't get uploaded, so no server ever holds a copy. You can disconnect from the internet after the page loads and the tool still works.
How many PDFs can I merge at once?
We don't set a limit. The practical ceiling comes from your device's memory. A laptop handles hundreds of pages without trouble; an older phone may slow down past a few hundred megabytes.
Will the merged PDF lose quality?
No. The tool copies page content without re-encoding it, so text, vector graphics and images look the same as in the originals.
Can I merge PDFs with different page sizes?
Yes. Each page keeps its own size and orientation in the merged file.
Why can't I add a particular file?
The file is either password protected or damaged. Remove the password with Unlock PDF, or open the file in a PDF reader and save it again to repair minor damage.
Do bookmarks and form fields survive the merge?
Page content survives in full. Document-level items such as bookmarks and interactive form fields may not. If you need filled form values preserved, run Flatten PDF on that file before merging.
