About Image Converter
Change image formats without uploading anything. The converter decodes your PNG, JPG, WebP, GIF, BMP or AVIF file on this page, re-encodes it in the format you pick, and hands the result straight back – your photos never touch a server.
Pick a target format, tune the quality when it matters, and convert a whole batch at once. Multiple files come back as a single zip.
Because everything happens locally with the browser's own image engine, conversion is instant for everyday sizes and works the same on desktop and phone.
How to use Image Converter
- Choose or drop the images you want to convert.
- Pick the target format: JPG, PNG or WebP.
- For JPG and WebP, set the quality slider – 85–90% is usually perfect.
- Press Convert and wait a moment while each file is re-encoded.
- Download the converted image, or the zip when you converted several.
Nothing is uploaded
Files are decoded and re-encoded by your browser. There is no server, no queue and no copy of your images anywhere.
Batch conversion
Convert as many images as you like in one go. Multiple results are zipped automatically.
Quality control
Choose the compression level for JPG and WebP, or go lossless with PNG. Transparency is preserved in PNG and WebP.
No watermarks, no limits
The output is a clean file with a sensible name. Use it anywhere, free.
How browser image conversion works
Every modern browser ships a full image engine: it can decode PNG, JPG, WebP, GIF, BMP and (in most browsers) AVIF into raw pixels, and encode those pixels back into PNG, JPG or WebP. This tool simply wires those two abilities together – decode, draw the pixels onto a canvas, then export with the settings you chose.
The formats trade different things. PNG is lossless and keeps transparency, which makes it right for logos, screenshots and line art. JPG throws away detail your eye barely notices, which makes photos dramatically smaller. WebP does both: lossy like JPG but typically 20–30% smaller, with transparency support like PNG.
Tips for better results
- Converting to JPG flattens transparency to white – pick PNG or WebP if the background must stay see-through.
- For photos, JPG at 85–90% quality is usually indistinguishable from the original at a fraction of the size.
- WebP is the best default for the web today: every modern browser supports it and files are the smallest.
- Converting a JPG to PNG does not restore lost quality – it only makes the file bigger. Convert upward only when you need transparency.
Questions and answers
Which formats can I convert from?
Any image your browser can open: PNG, JPG, WebP, GIF, BMP and AVIF. The output is always PNG, JPG or WebP.
Is converting free and private?
Yes. Conversion runs entirely in your browser – files never leave your device – and there is no cost, account or watermark.
Does conversion reduce quality?
PNG output is pixel-perfect. JPG and WebP re-compress with your chosen quality; at 85–90% the difference is normally invisible.
What about animated GIFs?
Only the first frame is converted. An animated file is a sequence of frames and this tool handles single images.
