What is PDF Signature?
A PDF signature tool lets you add a handwritten signature image onto a page of a PDF document — you draw with your mouse or finger, or upload a photo of your signature, then position and size it where you want it to appear. The signature is burned into the page as an image, just like signing a printed contract and scanning it back in. This is an electronic signature (sometimes called a wet-signature image): it shows your intent to sign and is fine for everyday agreements, sign-off sheets, and internal documents. It is NOT a cryptographic digital signature — there is no certificate, identity verification, tamper-seal, or audit trail. For high-stakes legal, financial, or compliance documents that require verifiable signer identity and tamper detection, use a dedicated e-signature platform with PKI-based digital signatures instead.
How to Use PDF Signature
- Drag one PDF onto the drop zone (or click to choose it). The page count and page size are shown below.
- Draw your signature on the canvas with a mouse or touch, or click "Upload image" to load a photo of your signature — uploaded images are converted to PNG automatically.
- Pick which page to sign, set the signature width with the slider, and drag the horizontal/vertical position sliders (or tap a preset like "Bottom right") to place it.
- Click "Place signature" — a preview of the signed PDF appears, and you can download it.

Common Mistakes
- Treating this as a cryptographic digital signature — it shows intent to sign but offers no identity verification or tamper protection.
- Placing the signature on the wrong page or off-page — check the page number and use the position sliders (or a preset) before placing.
- Uploading a busy photo of a signature with a non-white background — the whole image rectangle is embedded, so crop to the signature itself first.
- Trying to sign an encrypted PDF without unlocking it first — the tool can't read encrypted pages.
