PDF Watermark

Add a text or image watermark to PDF pages — choose position, opacity, and which pages, all in your browser.

What is PDF Watermark?

Watermarking a PDF means stamping a faint text or image — such as "CONFIDENTIAL", "DRAFT", or a company logo — over one or more pages of the document, so that anyone reading or printing it sees the mark in place. The watermark sits as a semi-transparent layer on top of the page's existing text and graphics: it doesn't replace the content, it identifies the document's status or owner. PDF watermarks are commonly used to mark drafts, indicate sensitivity, deter unauthorized copying, or brand client-facing files. Because the watermark is drawn directly into the page content stream, it travels with the PDF wherever the file goes — it can't be removed by simply renaming the file or opening it elsewhere.

How to Use PDF Watermark

  1. Drop a PDF onto the upload zone (or click it to pick one). You can watermark a single file at a time.
  2. Type the watermark text and/or upload a PNG/JPG image to use as a logo stamp. At least one of the two is required.
  3. Adjust opacity (how see-through the mark is), font size, and color using the sliders and color picker.
  4. Choose a position — diagonal across the page, centered, tiled in a repeating grid, or pinned to the bottom-right corner.
  5. Pick whether to stamp every page or just the first, then click "Add watermark". A live preview appears below; use "Download" to save the result.

Examples

Confidential draft

Input: report.pdf (12 pages) + text "CONFIDENTIAL", diagonal, 30% opacity, all pages

Output: report-watermarked.pdf with a faint diagonal stamp on every page

Logo corner stamp

Input: invoice.pdf (1 page) + logo.png, bottom-right, 50% opacity, first page only

Output: invoice-watermarked.pdf with a semi-transparent logo in the corner

Sample tile

Input: catalogue.pdf + text "SAMPLE", tile position, 20% opacity

Output: catalogue-watermarked.pdf with the word SAMPLE repeated across each page

Common Mistakes

  • Setting the opacity too high (80–100%) so the watermark obscures the underlying text and makes the PDF hard to read — 20–40% is usually the sweet spot.
  • Choosing a font size that's far too large for the page, pushing the watermark off the edges. Preview the result before downloading.
  • Expecting the watermark to act as copy-protection — it identifies and deters, but it isn't DRM and can theoretically be removed by a determined editor.
  • Trying to watermark an encrypted PDF without removing the password first — the tool will return a load error.
